The Sitting Service is for carers to have a volunteer for a few hours per week / fortnight to sit with the person they care for to enable them to have a break safe in the knowledge that the cared for is being looked after whilst they are out.
The service is for carers who are unable to leave the cared for alone even for a short period of time.
Unfortunately no personal care can be provided by volunteers and they cannot administer medication.
How it works:
A referral is made to the Sitting Service Coordinator, who will contact the family and arrange a home visit to assess if the service can support a break.
This assessment also includes background information, interests and hobbies that the cared for enjoys to enable the volunteer to build a relationship.
If they are suitable the coordinator will then try and find volunteer with a similar background and interests.
All the volunteers will have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)check and given training and guidelines from our Volunteer Coordinator
It will be the same volunteer who will visit usually on the same day/time each visit for a minimum of 2 hrs which will build up a good relationship with the family.
If you would like more information on the service, or would like to volunteer to support our unpaid carers please contact the Sitting service coordinator :
